Meet Airbnb- a website where real people rent their places to other real people. It’s kind of like Couchsurfing meets VRBO (Vacation Rentals by Owner) meets HomeAway. It’s changing the way people stay.

Crashing Coachella? No place to sleep? Since hotels have been booked for months and festival tickets sold out in a week, if you don’t have somewhere to stay by now, it may be your last hope: Airbnb

Airbnb is simple yet revolutionary: anyone’s room/apartment/house can become an instant rental. Browse through thousands of listings in nearly 200 countries where people offer up their places for rent. You can page through photos, descriptions, calendars, and reviews by previous guests. You pay via the Airbnb website, which tacks on a 6-12% service fee as a finder’s fee/price you pay for their protection should anything go wrong.

If you’re looking for a Coachella rental, try searching the cities of La Quinta, Indian Wells, Indio, and Palm Desert. A quick search turned up the Palm Desert house in the photos above that rents for $650/night and sleeps 10. Palm Desert is a 10-20 minute drive to Coachella fest.

If you’re not going to Coachella, you can still daydream via beach houses in Cabo or over-water huts on stilts in Malaysia. Or take your 10 closest friends to catch the last of this year’s snow in Vermont and rent an entire house for $250/night.

Welcome to your new favorite distraction.
